WHAT'S UP, UNDER THE BIG DOME?

VTDDC is at the State House closely monitoring policy that could impact Vermonters with developmental disabilities...and in the summer, we also take note of development at key government agencies.

Vermont has begun the process to change its Special Education Rules. Act 173 of 2018 requires the state to shift the funding of special education from a reimbursement system to a block grant system by 2025. Between now and then, large sections of Vermont’s special education rules need to be re-written. Act 173 created a committee to advise the Agency of Education and the State Board of Education on changes to the Special Education Rules.

The Act 173 Advisory Committee last met on October 7th to discuss rule changes. Stakeholders and the public will have the opportunity to comment on the proposed rule changes when the State Board of Education officially opens the rule making process. The State Board of Education has not said when it will officially open the rule making process. In the meantime, if you have any questions about Act 173 or changes to the Special Education Rules, please get in touch with Susan at the Council.
