Dear Friends and Council Members, past and present,
The Vermont Developmental Disabilities Council is deeply saddened to share the news that former Executive Director Karen Schwartz died this past week after a short battle with cancer. Karen served the DD Council as Executive Director for 11 years, from 2004-2015. She brought a wealth of experience to her work as both a public interest attorney and a parent of a young man with a developmental disability. She was a tireless advocate with a passion for ensuring that Vermont deliver community-based services of the highest quality. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held this summer.
Our thoughts go out to Karen’s son Gabrielle and other family members.
